The priority of this project was to prepare and preserve old geological information by scanning, digitizing and providing a preservation technique. The maps to be scanned were old archive data that had been acquired over generations from exploration activities in areas of interest. However, most of the maps were in very bad shape and had to be restored. Over 3000 maps were repaired and a catalogue and referencing system was established for easier identification for the scanning process. Training was also provided in the creation, use and maintenance of a GIS database. Special emphasis was given to creating metadata and naming conventions. Staff were initially shown how to scan and georeference, but the final focus is to have staff capable of taking over the scanning and georeferencing once the training is completed. This task is to be achieved by a process in which company staff successively take on more of the responsibility with IGL providing more of an oversight and facilitation role.

The main aim of this project was to provide GIS support for the company by integrating new exploration information into their existing database. GIS services provided were the integration of geophysical, geological and geochemical datasets into the GIS database.
Using this information exploration targets were identified. Maintenance of the database was also provided. Further to this press releases were written for prospective and current investors concerning ongoing exploration goals and advances. Information packs were also put together for the investors.

The client wished to have a GIS database for their Nigerian exploration campaign designed from scratch. This was based around an ArcGIS system. The database was setup. Company staff were then trained in the maintenance of the database. The databases were compiled from data obtained from the Nigerian Ministry of Mines and Steel Development. These included historical geological and mineral exploration maps. Further company acquired datasets were incorporated into the database. These included airborne geophysics, geochemistry and follow up geological mapping. Training was provided to select company staff to enable them to continue to maintain and update the database once the project was completed.
